Have you ever felt like you were in the right place at the right time? That’s exactly how I felt yesterday, while I was at the Valley Magazine launch party.Valley is a Penn State student-run life and style magazine. We release our fall 2017 issue next week and I am extremely proud and excited to say that I was able to help bring it to life as a advertising sales girl. After spending the semester selling advertisements to local business, and even directing a photo-shoot from start to finish for an advertisements, it was finally here!
The business and editorial staff came together for the launch party to celebrate this semester’s issue and our incredibly talented cover star, Leen Obeidat. Finally, our friends and readers were able to witness the reveal of our cover star and even mingle with her and the rest of the staff. I felt pride take over as the cover of the magazine sat uncovered for all to see. The room was bursting at the seams with admiration for yet again another amazing magazine cover. The design staff members were beaming, they have truly outdone themselves! The room was filled with conversations of the time and commitment it took to get to this point. Compliments were exchanged of both the work accomplished and the outfits people wore, (but seriously everyone looked amazing!). Laughs and hugs broke out all around the room as people socialized and danced with one another, pure joy. Pictures were being taken left and right, because honestly, who doesn’t want a snapshot of these memories? We all felt like young professionals, super stars even. The night was a great representation of Valley. I couldn’t help but smile, because I have fallen in love with with the magazine industry, and not only was this a celebration of an amazing semester with an amazing staff, but also a celebration of that love. This was exactly what I should be doing. It was my thing and I was happy to have found my thing.
How I got there:
Over this past year and a half, I have grown an extreme passion for the magazine industry; which is something I never thought I would say. However, I have been lucky enough to work and learn through some amazing publications, Valley being one of them. It all started with O,The Oprah magazine. Spending the summer in New York, living the dream: writing marketing plans and recaps, researching bloggers, tracking social media, planning marketing events and more. I fell in love with it all and since then, there was no turning back. There is something about the fast pace and ever changing environment that excites me. There is always space to be creative and think up big ideas. Finally, I love the feeling of success. Reading through a magazine that I help produce is very rewarding. From assisting with building and maintaining relationships with advertisers all the way to creating and executing marketing plans, it’s all a major key in the background of the magazine industry. A magazine is like a puzzle; there are many pieces that go into the making of it and I love being one of those pieces.
Next stop, Vogue?
